Water/Alcohol based welder?

Someone told me there was a welder that worked off water mixed with alcohol and I could not believe them.

SO i checked for myself, turns out it does exist but I am trying to figure out how much good it is? Can you weld stainless and maintain the passive layer or restore it after? How about aluminum?

First I heard of it. However, it triggers a memory from the history page on Hypertherm's site-when Couch and Dean were refining the process, they used water in the plasma. They have obviously progressed beyond that now. Welding seems a little different in that it's being used for shielding, not cutting, but the whole concept just sounds so counter-intuitive at first. I'm really anxious to see if anyone has any experience with it.

Yeah, seems like its the all around "solution" to a portable welder but I am just wondering if it could replace a welder like the Dynasty. We have new buildings getting put up and new shops getting set up and I figured I might just recommend that machine, if it was worth anything. But then again, maybe the traditional setup is easier with a bottle of Argon, at least you know what you got.

2500 is a lot to try it out, not too much on the process versatility, just broadly stating it cuts and welds.

Haha, good enough for me. I saw a picture of someone posted of a weld with that machine, looked like he did TIG blindfolded without shielding gas. Looked horrible. I am going to stick with the traditional way then.

I saw enough sino-soviet electronics during the cold war.... to know they are not very good at building electronical gadjets

My boss mentioned it to me, saying he heard about it and I should check it out. Now I know what to say...

Looks awfull for a weld, I don't think any customer would accept that, does not take a CWI to say that's crap.
