  • Bobcat 480v

    Hello.

I need a portable 480V power source to power 480V concrete saws.
I was searching for a generator and came across the Bobcat.

I have three main questions regarding the 480v version of the Bobcat.

#1 Can anyone tell me if the 480v Bobcat can be had fuel injected?
#2 Does the 480v version have auto idle?
#3 Does the 480V have the proper outlets to power a Dynasty 280 DX?

    Thank you!

    1. No but should be, the other version does.
    2. Yes, FYI, it's no low speed diesel, there's not much of a difference in the idle/load, It goes from idle of LOUD @2300RPM to load of LOUDER @3600RPM
    3. Yes/no depending on what you plug you have on the Dynasty, "most" people probably use a NEMA 6-50P. The Bobcat comes with NEMA 14-50R (4 wire 240v) so you either use a pigtail with a NEMA 14-50P to NEMA 6-50R, or you put a NEMA 14-50P on your dynasty

    OR

You use the Bobcat NEMA L16-30R (4 wire 480v) and put a NEMA L16-30P on the dynasty.

      Thank you Ryan.

I was just looking at a data sheet for this model.

The highest power item they show this generator running is a 5hp electric motor.

Designed for farm and ranch owners in need of single and three-phase power to run 480 volt three-phase pivot irrigation systems or provide backup power for home, farm and ranch.

The concrete saw I'm trying to run is 10hp.

wondering if this is going to be enough generator for my needs?

10hp should be 7,450 watts, so 480v Bobcat 3 phase 10,000 watts continuous should run it no problem.

Okay, last question regarding the Bobcat. I promise. ;-)

I have a 120v concrete saw that trips 20 amp Breakers. It runs great on a 30 amp breaker.

I would like to change out the 120 Outlet/20 amp breaker receptacle on the Bobcat to a 120v/30 amp receptacle.

is this a possibility? I'm assuming it would void my warranty but if I can't use the saw I need, the generator is not going to do me any good.

Rather than voiding your warranty by changing plugs and breakers (and potentially toasting internal wiring that may be capable of handling only 20 amps), just make up a separate cord/breaker box that plugs into the 4-pin 120/240 volt outlet. Put a 30 a breaker and 30 a outlet in the separate box and you're done with warranty intact. If you are not electrically knowledgeable about how to do this, speak with a local electrician. Not hard or expensive.
