Opened it up and found the two mica caps in the high frequency circuit are leaking.
They are probably... "Mica Capacitor .002 uF @ 6000 volts" ( many subs are uprated to 10KV)

Read this thread for possible substitutes

Miller does have the manuals in the archive and can email you a copy.

Just clarifying whether it is the 1960's "M-250" or early 1970's "Two-Fifty".
The "250" is 41 inches long, has 2 levers on the front and 2 cable outlets.
The "Two-Fifty" is 28 inches long, 1 lever on the front and 4 cable outlets. Many people confuse the two names.

H80N says it is from 1969, so it is probably the "M-250".
Either way, both are movable shunt units with a hand crank on the front, and only has a remote for ON/OFF, not amperage control.

The O-M I have in front of me for the M-250 (IOM-312A-6/69), describes the H-F remote on page 11. It is only a 2-pin unit and could easily be modified if you cannot find an original piece. A thumb switch, (as shown on page 12) is the easiest solution, and more useful than a foot switch.

It is an interesting old machine, have fun with it.

PICS of the front panel pls

Serial# U489934 was built in the first half of 1969

You probably need to contact the literature dept for a copy of the manual

To order, contact the Miller Literature Department - 920-735-4356 or 1-800-4-A-Miller (1-800-426-4553).

  • Trying to find information on Old miller 250 TIG SN: U489934

I picked up at auction an old Miller 250 TIG. Serial number U489934. Front is labeled 25 AC/DC-HF TIG-Metallic Arc Welder. Payed $250. Came with 40 lbs of filler rods.

Looking for information on setting up the TIG. Unfortunately, no argon tank or regulator.

    Currently:
    1) Doing some minor repair to the ground and arc welding cables.

    2) Blew out the dust.

    3) Adjusted the spark gap.

    4) Looking forward to trying TIG welding.

    Possible future work:
    1) Would like to add a foot switch.
    2) Would like to add a spoolgun. But I just don't see how that would be possible.
Working...
