  • Miller spot welder LMSW-52 with timer 230V 2.5kva plug rating?

What type of plug comes with this welder? The manual says tandem plug. Is this a 20amp or 30amp plug?

Please post the serial number so we can look it up.

      Not much help though.

The specs state 2.5KVA 30amps 10g power cord so I'm guessing a 6-30p is on the machine.

Agree. There is a picture of the timer plug on page 23 of the manual and it sure looks like a 6-30p.

The plug on the spot welder fits a 6-20p. I did some searching and found this interesting thread. I don't like it that I would need to install a 20amp outlet on a 30amp breaker. That seams it is against code. This thread addresses the issue but I'm not sure how to move forward. I thought maybe someone changed the plug but that seams not to be the case.

See NEC (NFPA 70) Article 630. Special rules for welders.

I'm going to install a 20amp breaker and 6-20P outlet for 220V. The welder will be over protected. It may trip the breaker at times.

That is obviously perfectly safe. Please let us know how many nuisance trips you get if any.
