TIG welding issues

Hi all,

I am not a professional welder. I recently purchased a small Everlast PowerArc 140ST and managed to learn the basics of TIG by myself. Everything worked well for a while, but now my arc keeps getting extinguished without apparent reason.

The amperage seems ok, and so does the argon flow. I figured there could be something I'm doing wrong during the sharpening of my tungsten rods so I tried to cut a larger part of the contaminated end and it doesn't seem to help much.

I'm stuck and don't know where to look to fix this issue. Any idea of what the problem could be and what I could try?

*I weld thin steel rods and I use thoriated tungsten.

Chinese Welder Syndrome....????.... those things are just grief and heartbreak packed in a shiny green box.....

Everlast has a forum where the owner weeds out the bad posts, maybe you could ask there...Bob

Gus35..... nobody is trying to give you a hard time....

but have heard too many sad stories of those inexpensive chinese boxes .....

they have a pretty poor reputation for reliability and support....

if you can return it and get your money back..... that would be a good option

If you can't return it, you could always take it to the range and get some use out of it. <br />

I went down your road one time before, good luck with getting support for your machine from the manufacturer. With such mixed reviews on product quality and support, I don't have much confidence that you'll be successful. But as to your problem....if nothing changed in how or what you're welding, then it's probably not something you're doing. <br />

Do you really even own one? You bought an everlast welder and come to the miller forum to ask about problems with it? Are you one of those guys that bashes welders based on color?

Well if you are legit ....... go and talk with everlast about the problems with your everlast welder and they'll help you with it.

If you ain't legit then you can hang around here with a lot of other guys (not all but a lot) and bash any welder that isn't red or blue cause it ain't American. A lot of these guys have not even owned or use what they bash. Kinda like talking out of .... not your mouth.

If you are legit, good luck and you aren't going to get it fixed that quickly most likely. If fast local "after purchase" service was important to you, you should have considered that before you bought green.

I don't care what color machine he has or where it's from, I'll still try to help a guy. In this case, seems like his machine is chooched and he'll probably end up having a story to share with the rest of us on how the service and support for his import model is/was aweful and so on. I can't blame a guy for buying a budget machine, these things are expensive.
