I have a dynasty 200dx that has an intermittent problem. its pissing me off, one because it welds fine for a while then all of the sudden no more working. and two because I've already taken it to a service center and paid them almost $200 to test it out completely and tell me nothing is wrong with it. so the problem is, it welds fine for a while then you take a break and come back it won't weld. it'll strike an arc but it only arcs long enough to barely even make a puddle before it goes back out. on lift arc it'll arc and go out and you can touch and arc again immediately and it'll go right back out. with a button remote with no amperage control it arcs extinguishes then arcs then extinguishes almost like its on pulser with no background current. but it is not on pulser. does the same with thumb amperage control as well. I've tried different ground cables 5 different torches. tried it on 110 tried it 0n 220. tried switching for dc to ac. none of that seems to make any difference. while its doing the thing I've turned the machine off and done the factory reset and it didn't change a thing. sometimes when it happens you can try again in a few hours and it welds fine. sometimes it takes days. sometimes it welds for months with no issue whatsoever. then bam one day its got an attitude again. it never occurs while you're welding only when you put the torch down and come back to it. no help codes at all either. id like to figure out something before warranty runs out in december but i really don't want to keep paying the service place just to tell me nothing is wrong. i have a video of it acting up but i can't figure out how to attach it. anybody have any ideas/ seen this before?

Ok so when I paid for service it was at an authorized service center and they said they had to charge me for labor but if there was a problem Miller would be providing parts. Idk. I actually spoke to Miller on the phone yesterday and the guy told me that my options were to take it to the service center and pay every time it messes up and pray they can find a problem so I don't have to try again and pay them again. Or I could try and sell it and hope it works for the buyer long enough that they aren't too pissed. Seriously what the guy told me. Im kinda shocked at that response. I went for the Miller over the various cheaper options hoping if I had issues they'd be more help than this. My warranty is up in December so id really like to get it sorted out before then. Couldn't for the life of me get it to act up at the shop so they could see it tho. I'll try to upload the video later

Is anyone from Miller seeing this thread? So if I have an intermittent problem, too bad for me? Since many problems with complex systems can be intermittent (I am a retired systems engineer with time in the world of reliability engineering and have seen plenty of them ) my warranty is essentially no good for a substantial portion of potential problems? There must be some misunderstanding here somewhere-this is not the Miller I know. Please help clear this up.

View My Video
theres a video of it. hope it works. thats using a button remote with no amp control, it just flashes an arc not even long enough to make a puddle. if i use lift arc it will arc for that same short amount of time just like the spurts in the video but it won't keep going like that it'll just flash the arc one time, you can try to restart it but won't hold it on just flashes. does the same as the button remote if i use the thumb wheel remote amp control. I'm so confused. I never seem to do anything to cause it but set the torch down and come back. when it started acting up yesterday i was welding a root pass in, i laid the torch down smoked a cigarette and came back and when i went to strike an arc it was doing the thing. so nothing happened as far as i could tell to cause it. i didn't move anything at all didn't touch any buttons didn't have a remote on. I tried factory reset and nothing. go back out to the shop this morning and its welding fine again. oh and the video is not from yesterdays episode its from months ago, machine is on ac in vidLast edited by Jayare123; 08-09-2016, 12:24 PM.

Thank you, Miller Welders! Hope you can get this straightened out. This thread is beyond belief to me. A Miller rep saying, "sell it and hope it works long enough....."? On a warranty machine? That is just bizarre! I have to say if I had read this a couple of years ago I would have thought long and hard before buying my Dynasty 200DX.

I hope so at least.
