  • Anyone had issues with XMT350 MPa Overheating?

We have 5 of these at our school. On two occasions I have had a Help 5 code show up when stick welding. One of these times during a welder test as an AWS Accredited Test Facility (Had to stop mid test and move the guy to another machine) . The machines had been load bank tested and calibrated per our QC Procedures about 2 months earlier.

The fan doesn't come on either. The odd thing is that the same machine was used for FCAW tests on 1" plate and never through an error. The output was MUCH higher (230 Amps vs 120 w/ higer voltage) as was the duty cycle.

They are still under warranty and will be sent off soon. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue?

Thanks for any information. This is just troubling when 2 out of 5 machines do the same thing and a bit embarrassing if your an AWS Accredited test Facility with all kinds of calibration and procedures blah blah and a machine cant handle the rigors of a 1/8" E7018.

    Thanks from Northeast Tennessee

Fan is likely blocked, perhaps shoot some air through the center covers. these muffin fans are easy to replace with high output 24Vac units. The stock ones tend to stop on a dust partical. As for calibrations, pure cash cow. As with most machines there is nothing to calibrate. I just load em to the machines data plate specification (most calibration firms don't) If they pass then off they go

I have never been a big fan of calibration. Its somewhat of a farce. The standard for the AWS Accredited Test Facilities requires it. And a few codes but its still a bit of secret voodoo.

I do blow them out monthly but may need to be a bit more frequent. Thanks for the info about the dust. That very well may be the issue.

      Have a great day.

Calibration is warranted for the Subarc units, but really not much else, I just make sure that they run up to the factory data plate specification. Sometimes they won't if the power supply is low. anyways. Some inspector, somewhere decided that every machine must be calibrated. Then charge huge money to do nothing. Gages, well, never had a welder welding look at his gages. Many engine drives don't have gages anyways, then what....
