Hey, all,
Last Thursday I bought a 1994 Miller Big Blue 251D with the Deutz diesel engine in it. Motor only has 1148 hours on it, and it started up and ran fine and welded just fine. The machine had been kept indoors, and was in really good shape from what I could tell.
Today, since I didn't know how long the unit had been sitting before I bought it, I siphoned out all the old fuel, replaced it with new fuel, replaced the primary and secondary fuel filters, ran the unit to warm it up, then replaced the motor oil and oil filter.
When I started it up again, there was diesel fuel leaking out from under the engine cover/shroud (part of the Deutz air-cooled diesel engine). The fuel only leaked when the engine was running. I took off the engine cover/shroud and started it up again for 5 seconds to see where it was leaking, and it was leaking from the line indicated in the picture referenced below. I think it's a fuel return line -- it comes off the left-most injector and then goes up toward the tank. The line seems to be covered with some kind of braided material.
Here's a picture with arrows pointing to the line that seems to be leaking:
My questions are:
1. Since it didn't leak when I bought the machine, but now leaks after I changed the fuel, fuel filters, oil and oil filter, is there something I could have done to cause this leak?
2. Is this in fact a fuel return line?
3. Does anyone know where I could find the part number and where I could buy a replacement line (if a leaking line is what's wrong)?
Thanks for any help.
