Grounded for life

I got a Bobcat 250 a few days ago. I read that I need to ground the thing. It is on a cart. So, will I have to hook the other end of the ground to the cart or to the actual ground? haha Then, what type of wire should I get? I got 2 wire from Lowes. But, I do not think it is the right stuff. It is just a copper wire, with black stuff around it. It will not bend at all.
