I've read nothing but good things about it. Sorry I can't answer your question. I'm also on the fence about getting one, seeing as how I hardly ever cut anything more than about 3/8".

I'm with OscarJr-heard lots of good things but no personal experience. I have the PM45 and am amazed every time I use it. Was cutting some 3/8 angle in Friday and was just awed (again). I have yet to hear the first bad thing about any of the Hypertherm products.

I have one on order.. I should be able to answer some of your questions in a week or so. I have had a Hypertherm PowerMax 1250 for several years now and I can say that it has been great.

Duty cycle ratings are 35% @ 240v and 20% @ 120v. I would think a quality outfit like Hypertherm would not sell this if the compressor was not capable of supporting the duty cycle. With those duty cycles, it wouldn't take a huge compressor, and there is no reason to provide air capacity beyond duty cycle.

Before I bought my PM45, I called the factory to discuss capabilities. Great and very helpful folks. Give them a call and ask, it will be worth your time.

They build quality machines and seem to under rate them...
and have a deeper operational reserve than their published duty cycle

Like Miller they are very conservative in their performance/duty cycle ratings...
so that they will meet or exceed them under the worst conditions

FWIW have had my PowerMax 1000 for several years... and has served me well...

The compressor on the Powermax30 air is of a very efficient design.....developed for the auto industry for air ride suspension systems. It uses low power (allowing more for the Plasma power supply) and is sufficiently sized to keep up with any cutting you need to do. You will not exceed the compressor duty cycle on this system.

Hypertherm created a new torch design with efficiency in mind for this system. Lower flow requirements allow us to properly size a compressor with minimal electrical draw....allowing us to get more cutting power to the torch.

Previous to this system I have not been happy with the cutting power of any 120 volt capable plasma with onboard compressors. This one changed my mind!

Buddy of mine bought a Hobart 120v plasma cutter with the onboard air last summer. He brought it over to test it out and all we could get out of it was a quick pilot arc then water. We are on the gulf coast and the humidity is pretty ridiculous here most of the time. We opened it up and that particular machine did not have any sort of drier or filter on it. Not sure how well it works in a lab where it was probably tested, but out in the field, es no bueno. <br />

I have a large air drier and still use inline desiccant filters on some of my tools, like my plasma cutter.

In our reliability labs we simulate different types of environments including high levels of humidity while the unit is operating at duty cycles exceeding its rating. These units (I think 10 of them) spent about 12 months in the reliability labs under tough conditions designed to simulate 6 years of field use in various climates. Received the new Powermax 30 AIR today, I have only done a few test cuts on 1/16" & 1/4" aluminum and they look good.
Machine is quiet, cuts are good, and I am very pleased!
