  • Expensive aluminum part needs welded.

Had a guy bring me a part that is broke and says its real expensive. But broke it isn't worth 10 bucks. So Saturday I will fix it with some new Hobart Maxal that Galen sent me to try out. Thank you Galen and pics to follow...Bob

Airgas ordered some for me (took weeks to come), and I would assume any Hobart dealer can order it, but Hobart has a 10 lb min package that costs $75-80. I have some I would sell to someone who wants to try it for what I have in it, but shipping would add to the ~$8 lb cost. Bad thing is I have not had time to try it yet but I'm anxious.

I've been thinking about putting some on eBay.

If you go to hobartbrothers.com and click on the 'where to buy' tab, that will show you the distributors in your area that sell Hobart filler metals. Any of those listed can order 4943. Most will say that they've never heard of 4943 but if enough people start asking for it then they will begin stocking it.

My LWS ordered 10 lbs. for me. I think they ordered it straight from Hobart, though I could be wrong on that. Took about a week.. Typical for special orders.

10lb boxes are cheaper to buy anyways (cost per pound that is). Two 10-lb boxes of 4943 cost me ~$120 from Baker's Gas & Supplies.

Ok, Ok, I lied. It wasn't $120. It was $116.

You won't find it on their website. You have to email the and ask for a quote. At this price, I don't see any reason to ever use ER4043, unless you run out and have no other choice to get out of a bind.

Started welding today with the 4943 and didn't notice much difference than using the 4043 as far as the mig welding goes. But it was much harder to grind so it is a little tougher material. I had to build up material where a hole was 2/3 gone and it did work well. Now to tack the rest up and get it finished. Am taking pics. I have been passing out some of the tig wire and spools that Galen sent me for others to try...Bob

Just finished welding on one leg. It looks great. The bead kinda looks like it was welded with 5356 and doesn't look nice as welded. But it cleans up nice and is a good solid weld. I am welding outside in less than perfect conditions so I know that has some to do with it. Now to size my pics. They work on every other site but this one...Bob
