    ...and if the instaneous surge voltage is high enough it can arc across an open switch. seen it happen; things that were off turned on all by themselves.

      YUP...!!!

      And not to drag us too deep..... BUT...

      every wire....lead & board trace is resonant at some frequency.... therefore... an antenna....

      every semiconductor junction is a possible "detector"

      AND along comes a lightning strike...... A highly energetic...broad spectrum bundle of RF & EM energy.........GigaJoules...worth................
