Well if it puts out 40 volts, there is no reason to re excite it, perhaps check the RPM via frequency taken at the auxillary terminals, high idle no load.

I am new to this forum and I have a question and a problem. I have a old AEA200L miller welder generator and it is only putting oput about 40 volts. No burnt smell and I tried to excite it with a 12 volt batterybut this did not help. Does anyone have a manual or a idea on where I can start to look for the fix?
