Do you thread TIG filler rod through your fingers before pushing its end into the weld puddle? I thread the rod through my fingers as I push its end into the puddle, not before.

There is no 'SMART' way to do anything (the burn marks on my body will prove that), I was just asking how people feed TIG rod.
Oh by the way i have been welding 43 years and have passed 21 weld certs (GMAW Aluminum & steel, SAW steel, SMAW steel, GTAW steel & aluminum & DC GTAW aluminum) (DOT, ASME, BCA-5962, MIL-STD-1595A, 2219/8611, 8604/2219, 248D & AWS D1.1, D1.2 & D1.3) and was W-06-01-003 REV C Visual Weld InspectIon trained'. The best one was DC GTAW on .500' 5052 aluminum (no preheating, 4043 filler rod, Sycrowave 250, 40CFH Helium).
So I guess your right about not seeking advice, but I am willing to learn anything new, as things do change and help if I can.

You might be surprised at the depth of experience on this board...
I have only been TIG welding since 1968...
But there are some Truly Experienced and Expert members here that manage to chime in and help others without being wise guys..... some much younger than us but display a mastery of the art that is amazing
Pretty much a level playing field here... Without anybody pretending to be the big dog....
With that in mind welcome aboard.....Last edited by H80N; 04-17-2016, 12:57 PM..
