  • Aluminum welding with Millermatic 150

I have a Millermatic 150 that serves me well in my garage at home. It is 220 and it was a step up from my 115 volt first Miller which I still use when I need a portable wire feed. I would like to start welding aluminum, but don't know if there is a spool gun that will work with my 150. Since It is older I can't seem to easily find a listing of compatible spool guns. Does anyone know what I should be looking for?

I think you will probably need to move up to larger machine if you want to do any real aluminum work....

you can plug in your serial number here to download the manual

That welder uses a nylon liner for aluminum and isn't spool gun ready. https://www.millerwelds.com/files/ow.../O1310_MIL.pdf page 32 ...Bob

          Steven,

Spool gun set up cost is almost as much as buying a new machine w/ spool gun.

Spooltmate 185 would work if you can find one used but still need the controller- which you might find used as well but new =$$

          SGA-100 Spoolgun adapter new : $312.00
          3035 Spoolgun New: $625.00

and the Miller 150- despite being a 240v machine is still only a 150amp welder.

            Broc

            I Agree....

PLUS.... The MM150 is woefully underpowered for most aluminum work.....

low horsepower short duty cycle... not ideal for aluminum....
