  • Should I trade?

I have a maxstar 150 stl I can trade for a pretty decent lincoln Ranger 8. I prefer miller and will always keep my favorite machines but I did upgrade to a maxstar 210. I never use the 150 anymore, just a nice small portable piece. I have an old lincoln weldanpower 150 that's sweet but it's ac only. The ranger has cv and cc so my feeder would work away from home or work. Should I trade? The Ranger has 1130 hrs. Everything works on both pieces. The stl 150 is complete minus ar tank and regulator. Thanks for any opinions

Since you are not using the Maxstar & the Ranger 8 will add something you don't currently have to your "fleet" of welding equipment I would trade. You say the Lincoln is in decent shape so why not.

Yep I agree I'd trade. Also ranger 8 makes pretty good generator. Backup power for shop or home. Also gives ability for field work if need to.

That's kinda what I'm leaning towards. I honestly don't really have much invested in the 150 anyway and I've been looking around for a decent gas powered multi function machine. I can buy a new 150 for about the same price as a used gas lincoln...I've seen several of the used ranger 8 models from 1500 to 2000. I can probably trade and sell if I don't like it and replace the 150 new. Guess I'm taking a small trip today, got to drive 90 miles to get it. Thanks for advice.

It was a nice ride anyway...only running on one cylinder and had a vibration like no other...sounded like 2 skeletons having relations on a tin roof.

Well then you could get it cheap and fix it. Right? Maybe for almost nothing if it's that bad. I hate it when that happens to me. I almost want to buy the dang thing just because I hate leaving empty handed. Done that a few times. Fortunately, it's worked out each time, but it's always a risk.

I told the guy I can't trade even, he had absolutely no money and barely even had a truck. I said I'd take the lincoln and 300 for mine and he got mad. He should have known better than to try to sell a blown motor to a mechanic. It had a broken rod. Even pulled the plug out and showed the guy that the piston wasn't moving... seen a couple Kohler v twins break a rod and keep running on one hole....he said cash price is 1000. I offered 200 for it. I left with my miller and another enemy I guess.

I would have offered a little more but the motor just couldn't get enough rpm to make a test weld. The block wasn't broke but without tearing it down nobody knows if it's salvageable or not. Then at least a rod and crank machining and time. Just wasn't the right deal.

I found a miller aead 200 le local, he's interested in the maxstar 150 and we are going to try to meet tomorrow. It doesn't have cv but it's bigger than my gas powered lincoln weldanpower and looks pretty nice. Maybe I'll get that deal done. I know it's older but I don't mind if it's nice.

                    In 2012, I bought a Lincoln Ranger 8 ( 1994 vintage ) with just 55 hours on it.
He had it stored in a sea container at his daughters place & just used it as a backup generator.

It's been fantastic & works great. - Best find yet !!!!!!

                    I paid $1,600. for . It came with a 50ft. Tig unit, 100ft. of 2/0 welding cable, also an arc-air torch. ( 6ft. long )
It was also on a trailer, that I sold for $250. as I didn't need it because it will be on the back of my truck !

That was a good find. I found another and he came and looked at mine today. He's happy and willing to deal. I'm going Wednesday to see it myself. It's a miller aead 200 le if I remember the model correctly. I know it's older but it looks new and hasn't been refinished. Runs and does what it's supposed to he said. I know it has ac and dc and it's bigger than my other 2 engine drive machines and has dc. Both my gas welders are ac only, I do have a dc converter box but it's a hassle rigging it to a tig torch and then with the converter on my 150 weldanpower I only get around 120 amps dc. Kinda low for some of the things I do.

What year is your Lincoln 150 Weldanpower ? The first engine drive I bought was a 1968 Weldanpwer 150.
It had the " Old Rope Pull " to get it going.........lol.
