Saved it from the scrap pile...just wondering if it's worth a carb, points and condenser to see if it powers up...has tecumseh motor and compression. Rotor and windings look new, no name inside and no info other than another guy here had one I think...

a closeup pic of the data part of the front panel would help... am guessing mid/late 80's vintage

Thanks, already ordered ignition and new carb off ebay. Used a driveline and machined a hub... spun it up to almost 3000 rpm with a lathe and did get output voltage...guess I'll pull it apart and repaint it and buy some new wheels.... seems like a pretty solid machine. I'll get a close up pic tomorrow

Had some spare time yesterday and I cleaned my old points, cleaned the carb that was in almost perfect condition and replaced the rotten gas line...fired up on the first pull, no bs. Carb is leaking a little and the muffler is blown out but it ran and welded 7 or 8 6011 1/8 rods back to back.. probably get new ebay parts this week and have it like new by this coming weekend I hope. Still have ears ringing 12 hrs later.....should be finished with purchase, parts and paint for less than a 100 bucks

After a 5 pound box of 7018 was used today I noticed it was getting harder to maintain an arc, capacitor shows signs of seeping so I guess it is time to try 1. Anybody know if it's ok to go up in the Farad size??? I have had good luck in the past buying a capacitor rated higher but they weren't for a welder...just an old compressor motor that needed one. Thanks for any info

I'll take the cover off tomorrow and remove the strap so I can Id it. I'll get a photo. Thanks for the response, if I can ever return the favor I'd be happy to.. I'm a ASE master tech and L1 in the automotive world.. can access tsb reports, schematics, theory of operation on individual systems, and so on.

I tried an ebay carb and ebay points.....the bad thing is they had the tecumseh brand on the listing and I received chinese and taiwan garbage...all my old parts are functioning pretty good now after some cleaning and adjusting. I feel much better using all my old stuff after seeing the quality of "replacement parts". I'll use the new carb for target practice, probably can't hit the points at 100 yards but I'll try, might have a chance if I stick em in the box tho....I'll post pics

Paint? PAINT!!! Why ruin it's perfect patina?

I hate painting.

On the capacitor note...I've replaced caps in other machines, never a welder, with caps that were of a higher voltage rating, but not of a different microfarad rating with success. Not sure of what the implications in electrical theory would be.

I hate to hear that eBay story you have. Seems to happen a lot. Hope you blasted them on their feedback.

Yes...negative feedback..I wish I didn't have to paint it but someone already used paint stripper on half the welder side... wouldn't look right either way in my opinion but new paint will preserve the metal a little more than dried paint stripper and some other unknown coating????

Plus the sheet metal is perfect besides the paint stripper...looks like someone used spray srripper....looks awful up close and metal is starting to pit from the stripper
