Well. There is only one toriod in this unit both for the welder and the auxiliary power, so if the grinder works on the machine then the weld, should pick up as well. Seems odd. Unless at some point the toriod was changed but the weld pickup was either not wound on it, or not enough turns.

Also Where would I find such a critter ?...........lol.
PS. -In the owners manual for the Ranger- It says - Press gun trigger " Contactor " closes.
- Welding starts and engine goes to High Idle.
Where is the Contactor ?
Maybe this could be the trouble ? " The Contactor "
Thank you very much for your help !

Whoops, pulled open a schematic of a Ranger 9, no Toroid on a Ranger 8. So lets get this straight, your grinder off your machine revs the engine up, do that means that the current sense board is ok. This means that there is something wrong with wires 254 or 254A. I'm going to guess that wire 254 has come off the selector switch. or 254A off the positive terminal. One of those wires is off or damaged somewhere.

We are making progress, I'll check those today.

OK, I found the 254 & 254A wires, but they go up inside a black box, as in the schematic drawing. Where the current sensor is.
Yes, 254 is attached to the selector switch & 254A seems to be attached to electrode stud.
They are same wire , right ? One going in & the other going out , and wrapped around the current sensor
With spade clips in between.
I didn't have the time today, so tomorrow I'll try to check for Continuity, I have not done this a lot or lately- If it's good, No breaks it should read 0 ohms ?
They seem to be intact at Both ends.

I had a thought - Cruizer, could I or should I try to Replace the two wires ?

Unlikely to break, and yes its just one wire wrapped around the current sensor mounted on the current sense board pick up. for some reason there isn't any current to pickup. now did it ever work? may of been a warranty issue. ill have a look at the service memos. Supposed to be 3 wraps on that sensor.

When I bought it in 2012 , it had only 55 hrs. on it, as it sat in a sea container as a backup generator most of it's life.
It's always acted this way , since I've owned it.

Success - I got I working properly, and I'm not sure how.
Anyway, I tried the LN-25 this morning in Low Idle- hit the trigger & it kicked up into High Idle.

That's about it, as far as I think of.
I was fiddling around with just about everything I could think of.
Anyway it's working.
Many Thanks Cruizer for All Your Help !!!!!!!!!!!!!
