  • Fux core wire?

    In .045 what would be the best wire for gasless structural welding. It is a Lincoln ln 25. I just got this and have been doing some research and came up with the nr 211 wire. Need the same strength and characteristics of a 7018 as specs.for are jobs say everything has to be welded with a 70 series rod

      No this will be on the jobsite welding out of a lift.

        Ok. I rarely use flux core, I generally use Dual Shield for all my on site welding. In most cases I can get a bottle within 50' or use a small bottle. <br />
        But in those rare cases I use Hobart Fabshield 21 or most times just run stick. <br />
        Due to the very limited use of it I haven't tried a lot of other brands. So I can't offer much help on this. Sorry <br />
        As for my stick, 6010 Lincoln 5-p, <br />
        7018 Lincoln Excalibur <br />
        Dual Shield I like Hobart Excel Arc 71 but Lincoln also makes a really good dual shield <br />
        In shop mig I run Hobart's metal core wire<br />

          Will need a t-8 wire,don't think they come in .045 . Don't think nr211 or other t-11 wires are structural rated anymore

            If you call lincoln or Hobart ,tell them what specs are they will tell what you should use

              Please define structural? Do you mean just random beams, channels & plates that you get asked to weld or is it jobs with engineered prints that must be done to code? If code work then it should be specified on the dwg.

              Nr211 in the .045 dia. is only recommended to weld up to 5/16" thick plate & is not recommended for multi pass work.
              Nr212 in the .045 dia. is recommended for up to 3/4" thick plate & also good for multi pass.

              I prefer Hobart fab shield 21b in .045 over the above wires. It is also recommended for use up to 3/4" thick plate & also for multi pass work.

                Mostly will be moment welds, tube steel braces, and tube steel lintels for store fronts. This all has to meet building codes and is inspected so yes I need the right wire for the job. Also on the drawings it says to use E70 or better which we use 7018 1/8 or 5/32 depending on what we are welding.

                I was told by Lincoln to use 203mp but it only comes in .068 but I have to change the guts in the welder as its set up for .045 so I went to the local supply house and talked with inside sales and he said go with the nr212 so we will see how that works. If the welder does what I want I will switch to the bigger wire on the next roll.

                      Also I have another ? , is there anyway to hook up a ln25 to a early 90's big 40 gas motor 3 cyl. These do not have all the fancy switches for mig tig ect.

                        Do you not have the CV/CC settings - For wire feed you need the CV setting.

                            To find out how to hook up the ln25 I would call miller welding ,they have always helped me when I had a question.About the wire I would ask code enforcement if it was ok.If it is ,get it in writing

                              The older Big 40's had CV option but most didn't hv it installed. It is a smaller panel below main control panel with 5-pin, 14-pin & CC-CV switch. Can't miss it if it has one installed. <br />
                              The LN-25 can be run CC or CV There is a switch inside the LN-25 for CC or CV <br />
                              But it is very difficult to weld in CC and the weld quality will not be as good as CV. <br />
                              LN-25 is designed to be run CV, as most all will advise. <br />
                              LN-25 very easy to use with any welder. <br />
                              Connect power feed from welder to rear<br />
                              Set welder output to CV<br />
                              Adjust welder voltage to designated voltage <br />
                              Connect ground lead from welder to work <br />
                              Connect ground sensor wire LN-25 to work<br />
                              Set polarity & wire speed on feeder <br />
                              Hood time <br />
