Runs fine but when putting a load on it either air compressor or trying to weld it starts to bog down, then it kicks the choke to full and shuts down. If I try and hold the choke open it just lugs the engine down and shuts off. Honda 13Hp engine. Replaced the carb but no change. Any ideas? Runs about 130Vac on no load.

Lack of compression, thus no torque on the heavier loads. Likely culprit initially was the incorrect oil. Probably used automotive oil not air cooled motorcycle oil. Now the cam lobes are likely rounded off. You need the Zinc And Phousphous to lube the cam and crank, not found in automotive oil

Cruizer- You are not suggesting I run motorcycle oil in my Ranger 8 , are you, as I'm getting Black smoke sometimes too ?

I run Brad Penn oil in all my air cooled stuff. Has a high zinc/phosphorous content. I just get it on ebay by the case.Last edited by MMW; 03-16-2016, 06:45 AM.MM250

I copied this from the Jegs catalog. Also available from Summit & many other performance places. Like I said I order it on ebay, Here is the link for where I get it. I use straight 30w. Works well for anything with flat tappet cams. Most older vehicles need a high level of zddp.

Brad Penn ''Penn-Grade 1'' High Performance Oil Outstanding Anti-Wear Protection for Muscle Cars, Classic Cars, Race Cars and Trucks!
Brad Penn ''Penn-Grade 1'' High Performance Oils are composed using unique base cut "Green Oil" stocks from Bradford, Pennsylvania with select additives to meet the stringent lubrication demands of highly stressed street and racing engines. The benefits of this special formulation are minimized wear, excellent shock load and high-temperature protection for bearings, rings, and pistons. Brad Penn ''Penn-Grade 1'' High Performance Oils have also been tested by many premier camshaft suppliers. The results of the testing have proven that this oil reduces internal friction for increased horsepower while maintaining outstanding lubricating protection for flat tappet and roller cams even under extreme conditions. The additive package in Brad Penn ''Penn-Grade 1'' High Performance Oils feature increased levels of ZDDP (zinc dialkyldithiophosphate) that provide excellent anti-wear protection. Anti-foam agents are employed to reduce foaming and air entrainment produced from crankcase windage. This oil also uses highly effective detergents, anti-oxidants and dispersants to offer thermal and oxidative breakdown protection by reducing varnish and deposit formation.
Features:- Formulated with Concentrated Zinc Dialkyl Dithio Phosphate (ZDDP)
- Exceptional Film Strength and Durability
- "The Green Oil" Preferred by Legendary Engine Builders
- Refined and Made in the USA

Also, since I bought my Lincoln Ranger 8, with 55Hrs. on it, I've Only used Castrol Synthetic motor oil , can I start to use Quaker State 5W 50 conventional oil or should I use Motorcycle Oil ?
