  • Help with settings on S-64 Wire Feeder

I have a 304 CC/CV and a S-64 wire feeder. I am wanting to weld with MIG using the s-64 wire feeder. I have a manual but I cannot get the welder to run consistently. It runs a few seconds and then the wire sticks in the puddle and the current is shut down. I have another wire welder but I really want to use the Miller with the wire feeder.

Can you help our point me in the right direction.

    Thanks in advance.

For one thing , release the rear drive roll, or remove a wire wheel.. Make sure the wheel is the correct size for the wire. Do you have a max 15' gun. What wire are you trying to run?

Thanks for responding. I am using .045 wire. I will check the wire wheel size but I believe they are correct. I don't think it is a wire delivery problem. It is as if the wire jumps forward into the pool. The current shuts down and I am left with about 2" of wire sticking out, welded into the melted pool.

I set the settings (as best I know how) for the wire and for welding and not plus. The CC/CV unit is set on MIG.

Brake circuit isn't working, does this feeder have any of the options. Under the left cover.

I adjusted the wire tension, made a few adjustments, and it works fine. I think I had the wire feeder way out on adjustment.

            Thanks,

            Jim
