Can an HF-15-1 be expected to play well with an AEAD-200LE? I've read some suggestions of HF backfeeding and
causing trouble with power supplies. The AEAD's welding circuits look indestructible, but the controls have enough
solid-state devices to make me cautious..... Also, the engine has electronic ignition.
The goal here is personal entertainment more than professional. I bought the AEAD-200LE in part because I
enjoy old motorized toys and wanted to recover some of the skills I almost learned in high school forty years ago.....
Striking and holding a low-current, small arc was and still is a real challenge. That's part of the fun, but I'm not
opposed to cheating when it helps. Primarily I'd like to find out what welding with an HF box is like. The results
don't need to be commercially valuable and there's no need for haste. I was once a passable gas welder and
would like to see how well I can do with SMAW and maybe someday TIG on smaller material.
An HF-15-1 turned up for sale about three hours away, asking price $300. No water valve, no gas valve, just
the bare HF box. That seems rather steep but I've been watching for a while and this is the first HF unit I've seen in
the Sacramento area. Been watching for an HF251, so far haven't seen one. The AEAD-200LE ended up costing
$700 after more than a year's search; it's not pretty, but the slip rings are un-grooved and it runs quite well, so
there's some reason to hope it's not totally worn out.
I'm aware of the Arc Pig, but it's slightly more money and reviews of it read a bit like advertising.
Thanks for reading and any guidance!
