  • Dynasty on Generator

Quick question, has anyone here run a dynasty off of a generator or is it not a healthy thing to do for these new inverter based machines? I am about to take delivery of my new Dynasty 200dx this week and am wondering how to do work in the field on any Aluminum projects we will have or wether I will have to bring them back to the shop to put them back together?

I have access to a 6000w single phase 240v generator and we also have a Miller Big 40G.

Any advise would be much apreciated

    PCWELDER,

Given a choice use the Big 40 generator as the power output on the generator is probably cleaner. The 6KW unit will run the Dynasty at close to 200 amps of TIG and 168 amps of stick welding output. I ran a Maxstar 200DX from a 5KW generator and it worked well. I have run the Dynasty 200DX from a Trailblazer (9.5KW) and it did just fine. The biggest danger is having a generator with dirty power. However, the "Auto-Line" circuitry of the Dynasty 200DX should protect it from any damage associated with dirty power.

I had the testing done for the Maxstar 200DX at Miller. The TIG applications department tested it from a Bluestar 180. This is the exact set up I used. Since the Dynasty DX is the Maxstar's AC cousin it should work just fine. If you still have doubts check with the TIG applications department at Miller: 920-735-4505 and ask the oeprator for TIG applications. Hopefully you can talk with Dave Fisher. Any of those guys are good and can help you.
