welding stainless without backgassing

Is there a gell you can use to protect the backside of a SS weld instead of backgassing??

To the best of my knowledge,there is no gel that will work in place of a purge on SS to keep the "sugar" away.

There is a Gel availible but I think it doesnt provide enough sheilding to eliminate the back purge.
They asked for it at work just the other day and I cannot remember the name. if you e-mail me some time early in the week ill have the name for you and tell you the capability it may or maynot have.

Solar B flux is what you want if you can't back purge. I have'nt use it because I will usuall back purge or I will try to not burn through if it is thin sheet. I have heard that it is a real pain to get off afterward. what are you welding?

When tig welding SS foodgrade piping the interior of the weldment MUST be covered with a backing purge or as has been stated use a gel to avoid sugar which will harbor food products that WILL begin to produce bacteria that will contaminate the food product in question. I would think a welding instructor would be well aware of this rolleyes.
