  • Motorsports discount on welders

Does Miller offer a discount program for race car teams and fabricators? I've asked some welding supplies and they have heard of it but don't know the particulars. Anyone know the details of this program?

    I wish...

If it did and I knew about it, I wouldn't have the maroon box in my garage right now

The motorsports discount is a case by case basis through me. The deal is the new machine order will be sold at around 25-30% off normal list price depending on which product. The race team must be a race team that competes in a recognized division (not street racin lights). They have to be apart of a recognized santioning body and run a MILLER sticker on the car. It's not something we do for nothing in return. I get hundreds of requests for discounts but I have to answer to the big boss about what, where, who, and why I'm discounting.

I hope this helps answer your question.

I recently was in the market for a tig welder. I wanted to go the miller route. I found lincoln would give me a dicount on a welder & schooling if needed. For us guys who don't have the big money & are weekend warriors. Besides why give a discount to those who don't really need it. All nascar or big teams have huge sponsors whats another 25/30% more for a welder?
Plus the main thing for me I'm a big NHRA fan. So the way I look at it is this I take care of those that take care of me. I don't like the taste of powerade but I buy it and drink it because they sponsor the NHRA. Same w/ lincoln miller make a better welder but lincoln sponsors the NHRA. I know alot of people who think like I do on this matter. If miller got on board w/this the only thing red in garage would be my race car.

Well, it's an advertising thing. We promote those who promote us. It's a numbers game. They reach a large audience. You don't have to be a large team to get this discount. Just belong to a recognized sanctioning body. It doesn't have to be NASCAR. I do a lot of local racers that don't have money. I just can't give away the farm to every street rod guy or hobbiest. I don't have that kind of budget. As for NHRA. Lincoln gives a ton of money to be the "official welder" but if you look behind the scenes, most of the big teams use Miller. Look at Jerry Haas, championship prostock racer and chassis builder out of St. Louis. All MILLER shop. Anyone with money can buy the "official" something of something. As for NHRA and IHRA, they don't do a lick of welding. They make rules. The teams and chassis builders use the welders.

            balerjoe,
If you had given me the specifics of your race team and where, when you run, if it wasn't just a once in awhile show up at the track, I'm sure you would have got the discount too.

Lincoln has a registration form right on their website that registers your race team and gives you banners and decals. They contacted me about discount pricing on their welders.
Unfortunately because of the need for a job and the hobby of building cars my racing time and funds are limited, I compete locally in bracket class.

Well thats just the thing. I can't be at the track every weekend. I run in South West Street Car Shootout. We only have a few events a year. Not all that big yet. I am at this time looking to buy a mig welder. Would like to go the Miller route. Like what I said earlier Lincoln is giving me a nice discount.

Something for nothing?? Hardly. Not a problem paying for a welder, but if there is some consideration given to trade people or motorsports it would be nice to know about it and save a few bucks at the same time.
On the other hand if there is a free welder to be had please give me the details.
Are there any deals to be had from demonstrator models at shows?

I bought a MM200 Mig welder back in 1987 for $ 1500.00 I used it in my welding shop for 13 years and decided I would update my equipment so I bought a new one it cost about $ 1800.00 I then sold my old machine for
                      $ 900.00 that means I had a great mig welder for $115.00 a year.
Dont sacrafice, Quality is every thing.

Hey all, I currently have 6 Miller welders and have a great working relationship with my local welding supply house. Since day one 3.5 years ago I have never paid retail for new machine or supplies. They almost always extend a 20%-25% discount. I would suggest contacting your local distributor and be upfront with them and say I really need/want a certain brand or machine but cannot afford retail, can you help me? They want your business now and in the future for gas consumables, etc. If they are unwilling to help let me know I can purchase anything Miller offers and bring it to the show. Andy's hands are offen tied by the corporate boys. Support your local guy and hopefully they will support you. Just my .02 dollars worth.

I understand that quality cost $ but some of these machines are so far out of the reach of your average joe that you end up buying a machine and growing out of it within six months

so if there are a few passports/200dxs lying around you can send them to arcdawgs garage -

Perhaps average guys should stick to average machines.

When i was 20 years old i knew that i wanted a Dynasty 300. I waited and saved and worked overtime for 2 years before i could afford the machine. After i bought it, it paid for itself in under a year. These are tools not toys. They are designed to make the owner money, not provide the owner with some form of entertainent. During those 2 years i could have put the money down on a new truck or a sport bike or a thousand other toys that i didnt need, but i didnt. I put my priorities first and didnt ask for a handout.

This equipment costs money to build, money to support, and it costs alot of money to comminicate to the operator how to use it. You know, we should be happy that companies like Miller dont ask for a credit card when you call them of have a 1-900 number. Other companies arent like this.

being 26 and having a work ethic that was instilled by my grandfather I have never had a hand out........75% of my tools were bought by myself....yeah I shop around and go to tag sales and have fallen into some really good deals but your comment above makes me scratch my head ?

what makes you any diffrent then any other poster on this board ? we all deserve quality machines at a realitivly fair price -
