  • More information on dvi

Have been reading the forum for several days now and don't seem to see very much on the dvi. Has anyone actually used one and any comments ? Am new to the welding scene and will be doing mostly antique auto restoration, nothing really heavy. Started looking at the Lincoln sp175+, but after the salesperson pointed out the better drive mechanism on the Miller, well the choice is clear. Not settled in on any particular unit right now, just trying to gather some info to make a logical decision. So far the forum has been very helpful.

    Harleyriderntx,

The DVI is far better of a machine. The fact that you can replug it into 115 power lets you weld the real thin stuff while using it on 230 gives you the punch for larger material. The size of the unit also lets you put the large, better spools of wire in it. I think you would like it better. It's even easier to roll around the shop as it comes with the running gear built in to the machine. The 175 would need a cart of some sort.

    Good luck!

    Andy

If the choice is between the MM175 and the DVI, then I would take the DVI for sure, however before I would pay the money for the DVI, I sure would want to test drive the MM210. I hate to throw another machine in the mix but for a few hundred more than the DVI the MM210 is is a real contender if you don't need 120V. And from my trying out the DVI and owning a MM210 the arc using .024 wire and C25 with the MM210 on 24Ga sheetmetal is hard to beat IMHO. I hope I havn't muddied the waters for you.

        more information on dvi

Thanks for the reply, but just as I suspected, not too much out there on the dvi, kinda seems like a pig in a poke ! Guess I'll take the mm210 for a demo tomorrow.

            harleyriderntx,

The DVI is a good machine. It was made to fill the niche between the MM175 and the MM210. It has a nice smooth arc similar to the MM210. The 110 volt capability is very nice. However, the MM210 is more bang for the buck. I depends on how much you are willing to spend. I welded witha DVI for several months and really like it. I welded mostly 1/8" and 3/16" tubing and plate.

I think the reason there's not alot on the DVI is that it is a new machine and hasn't been out there very long, I certinly don't think it's a "pig in a poke" for sure. The MM210 has some years on it and is owned by lots of folks.

                  Sundown,

Well put. The DVI was released for distributor sales nationwide less than 5 months ago. The machine really has not been available to the public for very long. I really enjoyed welding with the DVI I tested. The unit is very well suited to the home hobbyist as well as light frame chassis builders.
