  • Fishing Pole

    Hi,
Im a new guy on the block!
Question: Has anyone attempted success in welding a (Assume aluminum )fishing pole handle, ( Like where the reel is attached?) Its completly broken in half.
Have a buddy who has a favorite pole and asked if I could fix it. I said
Dah! I dunno, see if I can find out... Thanks for your imput.
This is a great site ! Mortch

if its low enough on the pole(not a flexion point) you could probably get awy with sleaving it and welding. It is only a fishing pole right not a imperative load bearing part?

Thanks for reply. Its the Reel Seat part of the pole . Where the Reel
attaches to the pole... A sleeve would not qualify in this area.
      Thanks , Mortch

                  looks aluminum

Well, it definitely looks like aluminum, based on how clear the pics are. It can definitely be welded, and I think that Tig would be the best route to take, but just remember, the weld in aluminum is the weakest part. Unlike steel (where the weld is stronger than the parent metal). I think with proper prep it should hold out ok.

                    Sparx,
Thanks for looking. Got any idea of start parameters. I'm new at the tig.
I plan on some practice first. Probably will look for a garage sale special and cut it in half and start with it and see how things go.....How much Heat ya think to start??? Thanks again Iwill post something after the attempt, might just be a puddle of gooooooo!, Mortch

I'm new to tig also.I wonder if it should be welded all the way around or in one pass on the out side?
To all who contribute to this board.
                      My sincere thanks , Pete.

What about brazing? Can you braze aluminum, and would it be strong enough for how thick the material is? I suggest this only because it is a relatively small piece, and it would be easy to sand smooth. Just a thought.
