  • Maxtron 300????

Does anyone have info or know anything about a Miller welder called a Maxtron 300? It sounds like one of those too good to be true deals. I'm trying to find a used TIG. I've talked to this guy on the phone and he doesn't know if it's a MIG, a TIG or a toaster! I've done some searches and a "Maxtron 300"(not a Maxstar)does exist but I can't find any details on it.

Well, you can buy the owners manual of it from www.millerwelds.com, so I'd say it's a miller. I'll see what I can dig up for you

Yep, that's the only thing that I could find that even proved the thing existed.
I thought about ordering the manual but I'd hate to spend fifteen bucks just to find out that a Maxtron 300 is an expresso machine!

Any info you can find is greatly appreciated!

....problem is.....I already have two expresso machines. I don't want to buy another one, and definitely not for $1000. Now, if it turns out that this thing is a descent TIG welder.....I'm in! Then I might be buying a manual.
This is from a pile of military surplus this guy has bought, so I'm guessing it might not be some mainstream product but something industrial sized.
I guess I'll try the old fashioned way and call someone, like you said.

I know a guy that has a Maxtron 450. It is a multi process unit like the XMT. DC only. I think that it had an option for a built in Pulsed GMAW module. He uses it strictly as an aluminum MIG welder with a XR feeder and water cooled XR gun. It's a nice machine but I don't know how the arc is on stick or TIG. His is from the mid 90's i think. Anyways I would bet that the 300 is the same with a lowere amperage and duty cycle rating. For a 1000.00 it's probably an OK deal considering what a used XMT goes for. By the way the Matron 450 manual is available for download maybe you could check that out.

the maxtron 450 is a nice d/c multiprocess it will do pulse mig with a pricey add on pulser like the optima. I also believe it has lift arc tig. it is an inverter so odds are the arc is nice in all modes. HAWK may chime in and tell us if the 300 is the same as the 450 just less power. I know the 450 is a three phase machine only though.

The 450 was single or 3 phase. The guy I know only has single phase. I think it was the precursor to the Invisions,XMTs and ALTs. The pulser option was built into the machine I think. Anyways, for all the naysayers about inverters this machine is still going strong after 10 years and gets used daily. This is what he builds: www.saddlestackers.com. He also uses a 2nd generation Dynasty 300DX.
