Update On Syncro 500 Problem

WELL GUYS IT WAS THE SLIDER WIRE ON THE FOOT PEDAL THAT WAS CAUSING ALL THE INTERMITENT AND WEEK ARC PROBLEMS. I ALSO FOUND THAT THE COIL THAT THE SLIDER CONTACTS IS WEARING OUT ALSO. I HAD A REPAIRMAN COME TO LOOK AT SYNCRO500.SO THE FOOT PEDAL WAS THE CULPRIT. THE WIRE WAS MOSTLY BROKEN INSIDE THE CASING BUT OUTSIDE OF THE FOOT PEDAL BOX. HE(the repairman) SAID IT WAS QUITE COMMON FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. ALSO HE SUGESTED TO PUT A MESH OR COIL CASING AROUND THE WIRE AS IT GOES INTO THE FOOT PEDAL BOX TO PREVENT THIS IN THE FUTURE. IT COST $75.OO AN HOUR FOR TWO HOURS AT THE SHOP AND TWO HOURS TRAVEL TIME. $300. BUCKS TO FIND TWO LOOSE WIRES.

note to self

Always check the foot pedal connections. Even outside the box and under the wire casing!!!!!! A LESSON WELL LEARNED.

Glad you got it working. I have a Syncro 250 at work that just quit starting the arc after a year. I noticed that the circuit board where the pedal plugs into did not have the pins soldered on the output jack. I soldered them and it was fine.

One More Thing To Watch Out For

The service guy from our supplier(middle*** gas technologies) was buttoning up the case on the syncro500 when he said this is the thing you dont want to have break on you(pointing to the on/off switch)I laughed thinking he was making a joke. But he was dead serious. New on/off switch=$2000.00 dollars YIKES . So now I'm acutley aware of the way I use that switch.It is very stiff and I used to give it a hard jerk to turn it on or off but now through the words of wisdom by my local repair guy I am enlighted on the importance of being nice to your welding machine even when it seems like its something relatively minor you could find that it is in fact not minor at all. WELD ON BOYZ



BTW Our machine is 20yrs old.He(the repairman)said the newer ones arent as expensive as the older ones.
