The word is going around that Miller has a fix for the LExxxxxx Maxstar 150's to enable them to run 1/8" 6010 rods with no problem. I remember when I first got mine I could not keep the arc going with a 1/8" 6010 and had to switch to 6011's. Can you confirm if that is correct? Thanks

Good question.
The weld tests on 6010s were good with the 6010 5P+ but the standard 6010 did experience arc outages and was not reccommended. Jeff Johnson from TIG service said the only update was a capacitor update to fix a starting error that would pop up once in awhile. When trying to start, you would only get a small arc and the blue light would start flashing.
Are you running it on 230 or 115?

I have the STH, and the ONLY problem I have had has been with 6010 (even 5P, even 3/32) tripping the uint out. Not a major problem, but annoying. I thought it was the power system at first, until I plugged into an outlet right at the panel and it happened (240V)
I do run a fair bit of 6010, but more 7018, so not a big issue. (wish I got more TIG time in, but we have a synchro350 at work, so I only have about 6 hours of TIG on the 150. Maybe 100 hours of stick. Not a lot, but with 6 (or 7?) machines to choose from at work, it tends to get used when I am on the hilo basket, or in places where I cables don't easily drag)
Ran a dropout probe on the line, and it didn;t indicate (trips on -10% for 1/2 cycle or more-- essentially a missed cycle detector) so I am confident it is the machine. Bought the unit just about the beginning of March last year... Is this due for a shop call for a fix?

If I could figure out a way to upgrade for $250 difference or so then I would do it no problem.Regards, George

Just get you some of those 6011C's I sent you. They are all you'll need for 6011/10. FWIW, I noticed that they are listed on the Airgas site as Lincoln Easy Arc 6011C's now. They were Airco Easy Arc 6011c by Lincoln.
I still like the 5P+ better. Old habits are hard to break. Although, the .045 flux core I'm running acts a little like the 5P. It even looks better.Don

150 STL flashing light
I too have had the unfortunate "flashing blue light blues" and was wondering if this could use a board upgrade?????????? With mine it seams to better with stainless rods than 7018. Trust me, I'm not a complainer, but the absolute WORST is to be under a vehicle and have this "flashing blue light" thing happen. I have too gone through extensive line testing, ANDY what gives?? Can I have mine upgraded?? (less than six months old). I live in Canada so this could take some explaining to the right people if you know what I mean. Waiting patiently for your response, thanx.____________________________________________

George,
looks like you bought the wrong Maxstar.Attached Files

I'm using the .045 f/c in the 8VS feeder running it off of the Bobus. I might even try some 1/16 f/c for the big stuff...or atleast to play around. Here is what the .045 will do on 3/8 plate and the feeder.
