  • ? 4 Andy..

I have been having cut quality issues with my Spectrum 375,Well i was doing some experimenting with the air pressure,The recomended pressure of 60psi just didnt seem to be doing the job,So i cranked it up to about 70-75 and it's cutting flawlessly.Beautiful cuts almost no dross to mention what dross there was came right off,Nice clean edge,I was really surprised because i thought there was something wrong with the machine.
Now running that much pressure threw the machine wont kill it or anything will it?

you are fine...it could be as simple as the pres flow gauge is off somewhat. It will definitly not hurt the machine. I run mine 5 psi over because of the same reason. I even have it on a small cnc sometimes and I can haul the mail with it on the thin stuff with no dross. I personally haven't tested the cutting pressure with a better gauge but that's my initial feeling.

    You are not alone

Well i turned up the air pressure and everything seemed to be fine then i started having the same problems again,So i took it in to the Tech Guy at my suplier,Turns out i wasnt halucinating(sp?) There was indeed something wrong with it,He was experiancing the same problems with dross and cut quaility,Wasnt cutting anywhere near advertised.Wouldnt even do a clean cut on 3/16,
So their just getting me a new one.

          Great!!
Glad they could verify the problem. I wonder if it was an issue of it not dropping out of the pilot arc mode. Acts like you are trying to cut with the ground off.

They hooked it up to a meter to do a quiky test on output and it wasnt putting out hardly anything,No where near the rated 27 amps, wasnt real specific, They have a guy comming in tomorrow to do a through diagnostic just for their own knowledge in case the problem comes up on another unit.
They said they should have my new one tomorrow,or early thursday.

The 375 I used, was a good performing unit when compared to a new SL60 38 cutmaster. I would have have them side by side to see which model I would like better. They are that close in performance. Anyway was your Cutmaster the SL60 model or the earlier model torch setup?

I had just bought it middle of last year. Air came in from the back,I am pretty sure it was the newer model. The one i had had the same torch the new ones have.
I just had a gut feeling this 375 wasnt right,It's rated for 1/4" quality 1/2"
sever 5/8 with stand off, and i could barely get it to do a clean cut on 3/16" It was an intermitent problem,One min it worked ok next i couldnt get it to barely do anything, I was like " what the f**k i just paid 1175.00 for a machine that doesnt want to cut crap, I was really dissapointed. But they are making good on it Supplier/Miller so no love lost there. Maybe i'll try to talk him into just replacing it with another Cutmaster 38. Wouldve gotten it anyway but it 200.00 more then what i had I still think i got a **** of a deal on the Spectrum 375 1175.00 out the door.
