  • foot shears?

i was planning on buying a foot shear, but im not real familiar with the brands out there, ive been lookin at tennsmith...

i plan on just using it for small jobs but i want it big enough so i can cut a 4x8 piece in half, and maybe shear 14 ga

and what would the price of something like that be?

    thnx for any help

I think you will have a hard time finding a 4' stomp shear to cut 14 guage.I have never seen one rated under 16 guage.National makes a 52" air opperated shear rated for 12 guage for about $7000.00.The same size in hydrolic is about $8500.00. The 52" 16 guage foot stomp is about $3000.00.You should be able to find a decent used one for 1 or 2 grand from an industrial clearing house like industrial machinery .com.The advantage to a place like this is they will give some garenty and a buy back option if its a good firm.Buy back options are usually about 70% of cost for 1 year. The Beverly shear might be a good option for you.I'm planning to buy yhe B2 model myself. Rollingthundermetalworks.com is where I'm looking to buy mine. They come in three sizes,B1;B2 and B3 with capacitys of 14 guage;10 guage and 3/16" acordingly.Priced about $500.00-$1000.00.There is also cheaper imitatoins like the harbor freight model for about $100.00 and english wheel for about $150.00.
I sure hope this helps cause it wore me out.

I just picked up a nice 52" foot shear from Grizzly, its rated to cut a full 52" width of 16 gauge mild steel, i have yet to try that much, but it does cut nice. Ive been able to cut smaller 24" widths of 16ga stainless with a good jump. I even tried a 6" peice of 1/8" alum and it cut through it, or course with a nice jump. I also think it going to be hard to find a foot operated shear rated for more the 16ga, anything thicker and youll need some air or hydraulics. Mine cost me $975, i live about 2 hours from the PA Grizzly showroom so I just picked it up, it weighs 1200lbs, and it wasnt easy getting it off my trailer, with only and engine lift....

I think Jet also makes shears and brakes but I dont have any prices on them nor do I know the quality. The prices I gave for the national comes from a pamflet I got from Industialmachinery.com.I do trust Nationals quality.Tensmith has a shear with an overhead hand lever that does 10' or 16 guage I think? Its very expensive.Pexto has a 52" stomp shear with the top head mounted on a C type frame that lets you run 10' of material through it side ways.It take an 18" deep cut.Very unusual.I will see if I can find a picture of it to post here.

I hope I did this right.Coputers are not my strog point. We should have a regular pexto stomp shear and a pexto C style cutter head where thsheet metal can be fed side ways.

Cool, im sure youll like it. I also bought the 48" box and pan brake, the 16ga model though, and in the same trip I got the 52" slip roll as well. I think im going to sell the box and pan brake, and get the bigger 48" box and pan brake that is rate for 12ga, it seems alot more heavy duty.

I was on the same thinking as well

On the 12ga box and pan, but then i figured if i bought the 16 ga shear that i would never be able to cut 12ga material to use in the 12ga box and pan anyways.
It would be nice if they made a stand to go with the 16ga box and pan.
