  • 8/12VS or 8/12 RC????

    Andy .......Hawk or anybody,
I have a friend that is wanting a feeder to go with his TB301G. He wants it to run buildup and hardfacing in a crusher that is in his gravel pit. When I say in the crusher, I mean "in". We were wondering if a VS feeder would run these types of wire acceptably or would the RC be a better choice? The extra control cable of the RC would be inconvenient, but if it would do it better............Myself, I'm thinking the Extreme 12VS Suitcase would be a good one for him. Then there is the question of performance with the exotic wires.

    Whatcha think??

    DDA52,

A true CV feeder such as the 8RC or 12RC will run nickel alloy and hard facing wires far better than a VS feeder. This would be a good combination since he already has the 301G. That is my personal experience. I have not used the 12 VS, but still think a true CV arc will out perform a VS feeder by a substanial margin. Andy may have some other ideas.

Thanks, Hawk. I forgot to mention what kind of wire. It would be flux cored/gasless for the most part. Buildup would be Lincore BU, BU-G with gas, and facing with Lincore 60-0 or Lincore 50. Don't know if that would make a difference or not.

        DDA52,

A VS feeder does an exceptionally good job at matching a CV feeder's performance with most flux cored wires. Your recommendation of the 12VS "Extreme" sounds good. However, before your friend buys I suggest a call to the wire manufacturer regarding the response of the particular wire to a CV or VS deposition method.
