Thanks for the replies.
Lots of good information.
Andy, the answer about the 35a tip is good news. I was hoping that was the case. I have a lot of experience with using O/A torch and have almost always used a 00 tip. I have become spoiled with the cut quality, very thin cut with almost no slag. When using my plasma cutter I was disappointed with the width of the cut. I will get a couple 35a tips and give them a try.
Thanks again for all the info.

Slag,
Good questions.
The extended tip is only used for more extention or clearance. It does nothing but gets the tip out further. The 35A tips have a smaller hole and gives tighter cuts as long as you don't go over 35 amps. So for more precise cuts on thinner material, go with the 35 Amp tips. For general all around cutting, use the 55A.
Hope this helps.
Andy

I have had the Spectrum 625 for 1 year now and I love it!
You can use the stand off tip for cutting or for trimming like you would use an O/A torch.
I have gone through a couple of tips in 1 year and I use it 2-4 times a week.
I have cut up to 3/4" with it, it was slow but it worked.
Mine is ajustable up to 40 amp and the only time I needed that was on the 3/4". I cut the heads off of 1/2" bolts (3/4" size) at around 30 amps with no trouble.
Your best bet is to play with it and find what works best for you.

Consumables
I purchased a pack of tips and electrodes w/the initial machine purchase. No more than I use the machine they have lasted a couple of yrs.,however I seldom use my A/O rig. I have used the extended tip w/cutting via templates,
but to maintain the 1/16"-1/8" is a bit trying, where as the drag shield has an automatic gap built in. If you plan on purchasing the circle cutter attachment, plan on adding ~a .015"shim to the barrel to aid in squaring up the torch. I don't know anything about a 35 amp tip??? The owners manual refers to only 12A,25A,50A,55A & 80A torches. I'm at 230 vac single ph. and rockin and rollin.
Have fun

Plasma cutter questions
I recently purchased a Spectrum 2050. I want to buy some spare consumables but have a few questions.
What is an extended tip and electrode used for?
Why do they make a 35amp and a 55amp tip for the 55c?
Does the 35amp cut more precise?
Which consumables are a must to have on hand?
