As far as cleaning Al goes, try lacquer thinner, acetone or isopropyl alcohol. Stainless wire wheel or brush first.

3m roloc disc's and a die grinder work great for me. Maroon-medium are the best.

I installed a attic gable fan last year in my house and it has louvers and the fan for a 2500 sq ft house was only $70.00 at home depot the louvered frame was extra but on $20.00 or so. It really moves some air and is cheap compared to grainger. I am not knocking Grainger but they are sometimes pricey.

            Outlaw,
I installed the exact fan from Grainger (mentioned by Pjs) in my shop, works great! I like that it had low profile louvers on the outside so it doesn't look like a industrial shop on the outside of the house/garage.

The grainger is a commercial products reseler, the home depot is a residential products company. There is a tremendous differance. The Dayton brand is the best, their motors have been running my equipment from the beginning {because I got them for free and have never needed a ounce of maintainence}, I'll buy dayton anytime it is available!!

I used the louvers from HD and the fan and housing out of a 650 amp Miller MP-65 mig machine. I figured those 1970 machine had to flow some air over their large Aluminum Transformers! Yep they were Aluminum before anybody could ***** about them.

My setup was really cheap and crude, but it seems to work pretty well.

I use a squarel cage blower out of a air handler. I mounted it up high on the wall and on the out side I have door with a hinge on it that opens when the fan is on. It pulls so hard it will pull the walk though door close.

                      Outlaw,

I built a whole downdraft system for my cnc plasma table and all I used was 2 fans and louvers from Home Depot. I also fabricated a small cover to go over the back of the fan motor to keep metal dust from getting into the fan and shorting it out. Works great. Too good actually. During the winter months, it would suck all the heat out of the building in 6 minutes so I built a fresh air supply hood over the table so the exhaust would suck mostly from the freash air plenum rather from the entire shop. When not in use, there is a shut off damper in the fresh air duct to keep the cool air out. This is also usefull when doing a lot of welding or plasma cutting not on the table and the shop get full of fumes. I can shut off the fresh air damper and turn the fans on and in less than 10 minutes, the shop is clean.

                      Good luck!

                      Andy
