If you bought anything CH made after 1995, it didn't last long, probably. I don't know what happened to them, but they certainly turned to sh_t. My 14 year old CH 5HP compressor keeps on pumping, but iy was NOT cheap back then (over $400, as I recall) so I'd expect it to be still running.
As for welders, I'd stick to a welder manufacturer's product rather than a re-seller of scrapyard wannabies.

I know they cut a deal to sell in Wal-Marts and there price means everything. When I first seen a welding machine in there I was sure the world was coming to the end. I really think Lincoln is shooting themselves in the foot piming the name on a cheap line of products although I can see they sell a lot of units in Lowes/Home Depots. Not sure its a good plan in the long run. Hobat did a good thing when they started to sell at non traditional stores, they didnt create a seperate line. The Hobart?Miller relationship is good, seperate brand names for the different lines. Lincolns plan isnt really good,, You can buy a premium Lincoln and an elcheapo Lincoln. That tactic has been the downfall of a lot of companies. Lexus learned this,,, in reality you are buying a luxury Datsun but at least they gave it its own name. VW lost a lot of money trying to sell upscale cars, were not sharp enough to give it a new name,,, No one was going to buy a VW instead of a Cadillac. Same with Cad, they tried to build Cadillac cheap,,, bad plan. It bankrupt Century boat when they tried to compete with cheap boats.
