    aphexafx,

Miller is listening. It is probably not going to happen. The extra 60bk per file would really add up over a time period considering the number of attachments posted. Therefore, space being a consideration, a couple of options would come to light: Increase the amount of drive space for the site-probably not an option due to financial constraints. See older posts deleted to free up drive space-not a good option for those browsing or using the search feature.

Maybe we will come up with a better idea to dump the 1024x768 files into a highly legible package in a100kb file. I like could set up a new server to host members attachments, but that is not really a solution. We need to figure it out on this site.

I know I was thinking you (or anyone...rb455ho originally) could just take a screen shot of a CAD drawing that you wanted to show on the board and then see how it looked after you reduced it with your program.

But, here is one I captured at 1600x1200 and then sized down to 1024x768 that doesn't look as bad as I though it would. It's a straight screen capture into Photoshop, JPEG'd to just below 100Kb and it's legible enough. So this probably isn't as big of a problem as it first seemed.

Like HAWK said, sorry 'bout hijacking the thread, Boss!

Edit: I just wanted to add that many of you probably have the Automatic Image Resizing option turned on in IE, and this will scale images down for display when you view them in IE if they are larger than the window. This will reduce the detail in the image but is only really a problem for line drawings.

          aphexafx,

That's not too bad. I prefer to browse AIS off in IE. For those who may not know the Automatic Image Resizing option is found by navigating this route while in Internet Explorer: TOOLS-INTERNET OPTIONS-ADVANCED-MULTIMEDIA-Enable Automatic Image Resizing.

          aphexafx,

Thanks for taking time to investigate. It is always fun to think what if and then see if it can be done within the constraints given. Again I apologize for 'jacking a good thread.

Yeah, well why not see what we can do? This has already helped me post a few photographs because I know what I can aim for.

I think the reason the above screen still looks decent at that resolution is because there are large areas of the same color which JPEG can easily compress. So screen captures of most software layouts and whatnot will have that advantage.
