  • What To Do With Old Welders

Based on input received from several of you I have decided to purchase a new MM 210 with the spool gun, two cylinder cart, etc. I plan to purchase a 160 tank of Argon for aluminum welding and a 160 tank of 75/25 Argon/Carbon Dioxide mix for steel. Are these the best gasses to purchase for these applications? It is what the dealer recommended.

When I take my purchased takes in to be filled do they fill my tanks or swap them out with full tanks? How do they know that I own the tanks?

Is there any need to be concerned about having gas in my shop which is in a garage attached to my house?

I have seen references in other posts regarding hose covers. Are these applicable with this equipment? If so, what do I buy and where can I buy them?

Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.

Hi, sounds like you're right on track. Might be a typo but I run 75/25 Argon/CO2 (C25) rather than the other way around (25/75). My bottle company is the same way. I guess they figure if you show up with one of their bottles you must own it. I've never produced any paperwork, just swapped bottles and handed over cash. Argon is heavier than air so it can pose a suffocation threat, not likely a huge issue in your garage, unless there is a room below. I've personally seen covers on Tig setups but never on a MIG assembly (that doesn't mean they don't exist though), .......might be a good idea to protect the cable.

    enjoy the new welder,

fill or swap is up to the place you get youre gas, you should ask them. most likely they will just swap it out for another tank. as for how can they tell you own rather than rent, well i would gess thet there computer tells them you do not have a rental contract so they wont send you a bill i'm shoure they will start an account for you if you rent they will note that in youre account.
the cable covers are just to help protect your torch cable it realy is up to you weathere to get 1 or not.
neather of the gasses you will be getting are flamable so i wouldnt worry about anything.
keep in mind they are under presher so take care not to break off the top.thats why a cap is required for transport.

have fun with the MM210 sounds like a great toy
      thanks for the help
      ......or..........

One thing to ponder is 2 bottles on your welder. If you do a lot of moving it around it kinda sucks dragging the extra weight. I have my argon bottle chained to the wall and use a long hose to the welder when i do alum welding. Which is not to often...Bob

Good plan, I could do without the dual rack too. I advised a user recently in a shop to do the same, rid that thing of the extra bottle when its not needed. Way easier to move.

I have a hose cover on my spoolgun set-up. I got tired of dragging it here and there, then looking at the ground and seeing black zip ties everywhere. Some guys just black tape it...I don't like the zip ties catching on everything, so I went the cover route. Are you HEARING this Miller?

I have the twin cylinder setup, I made it, but it's still on the machine, and I can't really tell that an extra cylinder makes it any harder to move. I'm on concrete totally, but it rolls the same with one as it does with two.
