New Optrel Satelite

I have 2 of the Optrel Satellite helmets. Haven't used any other brand of auto helmet, but I like the Optrel. The only problem that I have encountered with the outside controls, is that they are on the left hand side of the hood, and I am left handed. When laying down to weld in a tight situation, I will sometimes press down with my head and the on/off button will be depressed. Instant daylight and stars.

I didn't mean to say thay I have had a problem with the shade control while using the hood; in fact it has been very user friendly and easy to control with gloves on. I have never had a problem even when working in tight spaces. The issue is with the operator (ME) not remembering to reset the shade after doing some low amp TIG when I'm about to blow some thick wire into something. Sorry for the confusion; I do love the helmet and its wide range of uses JEFF

oh so you could hit the nob when you picked it up with gloves or bumped your head and not know it was changed till it was too late

kind of a bummer lucky for me all my controles are on the inside as i have been known to be a lil clutzy at times .

There is a shade adjustment knob on the outside side of the hood. There is a range switch that allows you to adjust between a high and a low range.

well i couldnt aford the cd player and twin head light upgrades for mine but i realy love it, as for the adjustment on the flip i just let it wear in on its own and now it is fine i think it just needed to wear of the new glossy serfaces.
auto dark is the way to go for shoure.

i have never had the shade change on me though . is the shade nob on the outside on the oripel ???

I have had my Satellite for a year plus and really like it. I have had the tension knobs loosen up from time to time but overall it is comfortable to wear for an extended time and I think the shape helps when you have to get into tight places. The one thing you have to remember is to check the darkness setting from job to job (maybe a couple of days between uses) .I have picked it up and started to weld with the shade on the wrong end of the spectrum a couple of times....DOPE... . Sounds simple but it will get your attention. Good Luck, JEFF

For the adjustment on the flip take the knob totally off put one dab of fingernail polish on each stud and thread the knob back on re-adjust the flip tension and let it set over night and the problem is fixed, kinda like loctite only it wont eat the plastic.

I just received my Optrel Satellite and I think I'm going to enjoy it. I've had auto and non-auto helmets and the thing that always bugged me was that the tension knobs wouldn't keep the tension as you flipped the hood. Also, on the Hornel Speedglas Economy, the headband tension would slip sometimes, too (but the auto lens works quite well).

The Optrel looks like it is a much better ergonomic design.

Hawk no need for warranty work I had the same problem with mine. If you look real closely there's a little thingy next to the x-ray button,.... you need to push in and hold it for five seconds to get the cd to switch over to chem power. hehehe

The Optrel Satellites are nice electronic welding hoods. I used one for a good while before trying the Big Window Elite. Both are nice hoods.

I got stiffed. My twin beam light works anytime, but the CD won't play except when there is a welding arc. Is yours this way? Maybe I need to file for warranty???

I really like my Big Window Stars and Stripes with built in twin beam work light, 2X power magnification button and cd player.
