  • MM300 & 90/10

At work, our maintenance uses a MM300 with 90% argon & 10% O2 with standard 0.035 wire. Just curious, what benifit does the 10% 02 give them versus 10 or 25% Co2 ???

Is it implied that by doing so -that corrosion is not an issue? I did notice that they seldom, if ever, crank up the MM300 to full capacity.

On a machine that size, you can also spray arc with 90/10. My dealer tells me I can also spray with it using the MM210, but the collective wisdom on the forums suggests that it's too close to the top end to be practical.

          Hank,

I achieved spray with 90/10 on my 210 but according to Dan's calculations I was welding way over 210 amps and that's not good for the long haul. I need to get some 98/2 someday.

            Cope,

Dan's post on that subject is why I'm hesitant. He ain't bum-doped me yet!! My problem is that the local Airgas outfit is not the filling location. They fill in Sacramento, and hour south of me. The distributor won't carry 98/2 because "it don't move.". I've got one more shot about 30 miles north in Oroville that may have it. If not, I'm off to the big city (for me!).

              Hank,

Even in Houston the suppliers carry what they think you should buy and don't care what else you want. I found that they all carry something different and that prices are all over the place.

                Alan and Hank,

Remember, Im not trying to make any money off you. My recommendation is strictly based trying to give you the best performance possible that you can achieve from your unit. In the area of spray transfer with a MM 210, 98/2 is going to produce a higher quality spray transfer arc then 90/10. Plus the 98/2 is going to give you a larger window where spray arc occurs.

                    Spray welding

                    Hank.
I have never had any problem getting 98/2 argon/oxygen from the local Airgas dealer and it does a great job spray welding.
