I currently am using a syn180 with a 2% thor, 3-32 W electrode. I am welding 6061-T6(material thickness is 3/16) and 4043-1/8" filler rod in a lap joint configuration. The weld dimensions are correct and symetric. My question is how can I increase my travel speed. I am creating the weld pool dabbing the filler rod and moving on. It seems that when I try to increase my travel speed I have to use too much current to maintain the weld pool.

Thank you in advance for any advice

P.S. I am purchasing a syn 350 for my xmas present as I need to do some 1/2" Al. I can't wait.

I have a syncro 250 at work. I use a pure tungsten with a taper on the end. If I don't run too much current, it stays at a half ball. What you are saying makes sense. With more current you would have to move faster.
