Dynasty 200dx problem

I am seekin some help for my new Dynasty 200dx. I have setup the unit as per the manual on 240volt power and am having problems.
I have set the unit up in both modes Ac/ & DC as per the manual supplied. When in AC mode for Alloy I get a large amount of arcing noise coming from the electrode and a wandering arc with vitually no penetration also burnt electrode. And in Dc mode for steels a similar sort of thing with much less noise coming from the electrode.
I am running 100% argon at 15 lpm.
Can any body help me is it a setup problem or unit problem.

One thought polarity might be reversed.

Your'e not using pure tungsten are you?
And is it sharpened to a point
It does make a lot of noise on AC( kind of anoying)

buzzing in a/c is common and loud. also as dea stated sharpen your tungsten to a point for d/c and put a slight flat on the point for a/c and also never use pure tungsten. Would also stronglky recomend reading the tig welders handbook offered for free on millerwelds home page

I have checked to see if the polarity was correct and I have also been using the correct Electrodes. I am just printing the miller tig welding guide to see if i have overlooked anything. please keep the suggestions coming!

A burned looking electrode makes me want to look at the gas setup. I have heard of bad gas from the supplier.

mike w has a good point also. check all your connections and make sure your gas cup is seated tightly against the torch body. agood test is to remove the tungsten and place your thumb over the hole while the gas is flowing, spray everything with simple green or some other mild sudsing cleaner.

Problem solved

Today I took the welding unit to my local welding supply shop to test it on 3 phase power. The unit worked fine on 3 phase 415volts. The machine was set up for aluminium as per the manual suppied with the unit and performed faultlessly.
I then took the unit home with the same settings but on 240volts and guess what noisy arc and all the problems as previously discribed. I then change the electrode to 1 size smaller 1.6mm and the unit performed faultlessly. So eventhough the unit says it is multi voltage it has limitations on the electrodes used on the lower voltages.
I now plan to hook it up to 3 phase at home to avoid these problems when using larger electrodes. thankyou all for your help

i run mine on an underpowered 120v circuit. with 3/32 electrodes. the arc is fine on all but low, under 30 amp, power. i wonder if you have dirty power ...
i would take it somewhere else and try it on 220v.

Something is not right with this equation. The Dynasty 200 series performs flawlessly form 100-500 VAC on 1 and 3 phase power. They are designed to run .010" to 3/32" ceriated or lanthanated alloyed electrodes. The machine may give you problems on 1/8" tungsten electrodes, but you should not need them. A 3/32" 2% lanthanted electrode properly prepared will handle 300 amps with 75%helium/25%argon mix. That is a much hotter output than the Dynasty 200DX is capable of producing.

ARE YOUR ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS FOR 1 PHASE 240VAC CORRECT? GREEN FOR GROUND, WHITE FOR HOT AND BLACK FOR HOT.

THE RED SHOULD BE TAPED AND NOT CONNECTED. IT IS FOR 3 PHASE USE ONLY.

The first thing I thought of was what HAWK mentioned about the correct primary wiring. People often know that red and black are used for hot conductors in standard home wiring, so they might think that they are supposed to hook up those two wires when dealing with the Dynasty in a single phase setup...but of course it is the black and white, and red is tied back, as HAWK said...

Still, reading the original post, it sure seems like a gas problem.

3 phase

cant you make a converter to make three phase. seems i herd about that here a wile back. HAWK was talking with a few others about it i thought. i might have misunderstood or i could have imagined the hole thing
maybe HAWK will jump back in and let us know if it was all just a dream i had or not

You can get a rotary or a static converter to get 3 phase from single phase. You can buy them or build your own.
