Inverter spec. on auto helmets?

Hi,

I see the current auto-darkening helmets talk about being "inverter" ready. What's this all about? My 5 year old Jackson ADF Super V has adjustable sensitivty, shade & delay is that good enough?

I guess I need to know if I need to add the cost of a helmet to my Dynasty 200DX budget.

I think it means that the helmet is designed to respond to the much quicker arc of the true (advanced) squarewave that inverters put out, as well as the higher possible frequencies. I think most helmets will probably work with inverters, but the ones with the inverter designation are MADE to work with them so that there is no question. I've heard of people getting flashed by thier trusty helmets when they used inverters. I don't know, try it and see if it works out, if not, then I guess you'll need to get a new one that is inverter ready.

I think that the "Inverter auto-darkening helmet" Is just a marketing thing that the companies are tring to get some market share from the big boys I.E Speed Glass, Jackson, And MILLER.

I thought it was just me, I have a TA185 at the house and that sum***** flashes the crap outta me all the time, I have tried both my jacksons and my new Big Window Elite, I have tried everything and nothing seems to stop it. at work we have a Miller Dialarc HF-P and it doesnt flash me at all.......

I had a first generation Miller XLIX hood. I used to get flashed sometimes doing low amp DC TIG. I sent it to Miller last year when they introduced the Big Window Elite and the new XLIX. I havent got flashed yet. I think that they have more sensors than the older hoods. I would say that if you are getting flashed with your Big Window Elite, then something is wrong. I believe thare is an 18 month warranty, so send it back. It took about 2 weeks to get mine retrofitted and I like it so much that I plan on getting a new red flame Big Window Elite to use also.

Try it first and see. I have a Jackson and it worked well for mig and tig when I had an Econotig. When I got a TA185 I got flashed even at 100amps. It would go dark then lighten in the middle of the weld. I heard it had to do with the even light frequency of an inverter arc Anyway, I got an Optrelle Satelite problem solved

I have used and demoed many helmets in recent years and the Miller Big Window Elite is a fine unit. My bet is your sensitivity is set to high (too sensitive) if you are getting flashed welding with the TA 185.

Don't get me wrong, I love this helmet and most likely will aquire another one so I dont have to keep bringing it home, I have tried the sensitivity adjustment, delay, all setting and it still flashes me. When I first got it, about 2 weeks into using it, the battery light came on, I pulled it apart and pulled the battery and put it back in and it hasnt come on since, maybe there is something wrong with it.

Here is a trick I learned from a camera repairman, clean the contacts with the eraser on your pencil. This is just an idea, doesn't cost anything and could save a bunch.
