air arcing with sycrowave 180

I have been doing a bunch of air arcing at work and was wondering if i could get by using my syncrowave 180 on small projects at my house? I wouldnt use it that much but it would come in handy once in a while.

im not sure but I dont think the syncro has the arc force to use carbon.

Carbon Arc needs 25+ volts to work, my Bobcat does not like to preform it, but my Synchrowave 250 will. Hope this helps, also watch the duty cycle, as the CAC can easily smoke your machine. Paul

thanks for the replys. the welders at work said it would probably do it but I was hoping someone has tried it.

This was bought up on the Hobart board and we were advised against using our synchros for air arc, I dont remember the exact reason though. Something about the sudden rush of current but dont remember the details.

It's CAC Carbon Arc Cutting. You use a carbon stick electrode with an air jet. Once the carbon arc starts it just melts the metal and the air blows it away. Like a O/A torch but with electricity.
