    cv only?

The Spool 30 is a CV only gun. There are Voltage sensing units like a suitcase VS or an XR feeder but they are a poor fit with the Sync 180. You'd have to be a charmed magician on a full moon with a shooting star over your head to make it run right.

Now if you get yourself a used MM251 or even a Regency, now you have a killer set up.

    Good Luck

    Andy-

The miller catalog states that the spoolmatic 15/30A is CCor CV equipment. Using the WC115A with this gun and the 180 or the econo-tig, why will this not work?. I have just been asked this question by one of my customers, and with looking at the specs, it should work. Ideally, a CV machine is much better for mig, but in a pinch, will this not work?

    thanks
    Paul

Hi Buzz, I am also an electronics tech. I run a wire feeder off of a 24 volt battery charger.

First I would like thank everone for the input.
I know the majority of you guys are welders and I admire that. I am an Electronics Repair Technician who happens to know how to weld. I have held a lot of jobs in my life and one of them was a Welder in a Ship Yard, in the 60’s, which was all stick. I have a lot projects, one of which is build a front engine dragster. The frame is Chromoly that, as you know, must be TIG welded. It takes a lot of practice to get a good TIG weld and I’m getting there. What I am about say is one of those “Don’t try this at home” things I have some research on this gun and Andy is right on as far as getting this thing to work in the conventional sense. In my work, I build and repair large low voltage Power Supplies which are equivalent to a CV Welding Machine. I can install anything from a Capacitor / Choke input filter to a Triac Regulator in my Thunderbolt in order to provide the Control Voltage along with a motor speed controller for the wire feed. Although I can probably afford to get a WC 115, but with all due respect, where’s the challenge? I’ll put this thing together make a couple of passes and post some pictures, not to prove a point, but for the learning experience.

    Thanks Buzz

    Mm210

for what you would spend on a Voltage sensing units like a suitcase VS you could get a new MM210 and use your gun on it, and have a kickin new welder too

Tig/arc welders are constant current. I have heard of spool guns made for CC use but don't know how well they worked. Sounds like a good excuse to buy a mig to me.

Should be able to spray-arc some with that unit. CC aluminum is pretty hot though. Do you have the control box for the gun?

I don't think the Syncrowave 180SD is a CV unit. I could be wrong though.
