gas lense questions

i just got my gas lense parts. i put a set on, they are the smaller size, but still seemingly big. yes, i have the right parts, at least according to arc-zones breakdown.

1. in the pic. see how the gasket seats on the torch. that just doesn't seem right. the other gasket fits nicely over the rubber. this one rides inside it.
the 2 different gaskets are in the pic.

2. is the lense supposed to go all the way into the cup ? seems to me it would work better if it set back into the cut a bit ?

3. what should i start the psi at ? stickout any different ? i think it could be run a bit longer.

possibly more questions once i use it.

how you like the torch

is it confortable to hold it is a lot different from the dimondback of millers with the handle part having the rings insted of the inset grip. do you find the rings to be a good fit in the hand?in short dose it feel good, like it belongs there?

1) I don't think you have your gasket set correctly, see attached photo 2.
2) Yes the the lens goes all the way into the cup , see photo 1.
3)I run 11 on the flow and stick out @ a 1/4" or less if I can get by & more if I need the reach & increase flow for the longer reach. Yes you can run a bit longer with the lens due to its dispursment properties of the gas.

thanx. but your torch looks different than mine. i have a back gasket, yours doesn't. mine has a lip that the regular gasket goes over, it looks like yours doesn't. your lense sits very close to the body, mine is out a good ways.

i put the regular gasket back on, then put the lense setup over the top of that, even the lense gasket(2 gaskets touching). it looks like it supposed to be like this, and it looks like everything lines up better.

That is the set up I used in school that you have in the photo you must adjust to your configeration to the tool in hand. Hey I am old, now I have become particular in looking good even though I am not an expert. Just look at my golf clubs, you would think I am a PGA PRO.
Now back to the subject; As long as the fit is tight and aerodynamic( I hope I spelled that right) the end result will be positive and correct in function

p.s I like the smaller lens from learning from the famous boilermaker

i think either way i configure it, it would work. but i think the 2 gasket way would be best, as the sceen is farther up in the cup, thus protecting it better. both ways the gaskets seal fine.

I also used the same 17 series torch in school. Never bothered to change gaskets when switching from lense to non-lense. It must have worked OK. I think the gasket that came with the torch is designed to work with both types.

I have some kits from CK that are similar as far as gasket placement. I finally ended up without a top gasket at the torch head. There is a 1/16" or less gap there. The important thing is don't leave any bare metal exposed where you can get in contact with it. Getting you tail busted by a TIG torch would not be fun.

well, i tried it out last night. i could cut my gas usage by 50%, 10scfh worked just as well as 15 with the regular cup. so these lens's will pay for themselves.

lenses always?

if they cut gas usage why would any one not use them?

is there any disadvantage to using them? seems saving gas would be a great advantage so why not always use them????

The only disadvantage is size.

yeah, the size. and also it wouldn't be hard to foul/damage the screen on steel. i bought 3, 1 new still, 1 steel only, and 1 aluminum only.
