  • Miller Helmet Question

I have a Miller XLix Stars and Stripes welding helmet that is about 1 1/2 yrs old (i think). Lately I have been getting "flashed" (alot) when I weld for more than 15-20 minutes. I leave the helmet on a shelf in front of a window to let it charge when I am not using it. I only weld on the weekends and only for two to three hours at any given time. I don't think that there is a battery in the helmet that I can change because it is solar powered. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    etinti:
That model does have a battery, the solar is a recharge or upkeep. The hood does need to have the battery changed every 2000 hours or so. Remember shelf life is as damaging to batteries as usage life, I haven't changed mine yet in nearly 4 years but it gets used 3-4 times per week. I am not sure the battery it takes but you can download the manual from the miller welds site.

    Don't chuck it quite yet,

Here is the parts list for all of millers hoods,

The helmet I have doesn't seem to have that battery that you're talking about. It is an XLIx series but it's not like the new one I saw at the local welding shop. I'm not sure what to do with this helmet. I have left it in the sun for the past two days and it works for about 20 minutes then starts to flash me.

      serial number 30410437

      Any suggestions?

        need's battery

it has to have some type of internal rechargable battery. as with any rechargeble battery it hold's charge for minimal time when it is worn out. at this point you could charge it for a week and still only get 20 min.

i would call miller and ask them. give them the ser. # so they know witch modle you are working with and see what they say. i would think they have a way of replacing the battery even if it dosent seem like it can be changed. to put the life of a helmit at the mercy of it's battery would be foolish, and miller trys not to do foolish thing's.could happin though i would call them direct if your dealer dosent know what to do with it.
        good luck

            sensitivity ajustment

have you tryed turning up the sensitivity? the higher the sensitivity the easyer it is ti darken.
            low amps- high sensitivity

i keep the sensitivity set as high as i can get away with in the shop only turn it down if im using it out side or with my 500Wat spotlight .
            thanks for the help

Look inside when the adjustment dials are, the number is lightly stamped (melted) into the plastic between the dials and the window.
Mine has some numbers there, just assuming it's the serial number.

                  etinti,
Your XLIx helmet has an 18 month warranty and according to the serial number you mentioned it is still under warranty. Get it in to your local distributor and they will get it taken care of for you.
