  • New Helmet

Well my old cheapie autodim was fine for MIG, and stick welding, but doesn't seem the greatest for TIG. It isn't really clear and I don't think I see enough of what I am doing. I have narrowed my choice down to 2 different helmets, the Miller Big window Elite and the Speedglas 9002X. Can anyone shed some light on the differences between them, and if the Speedglas is worth the extra $$$. The one thing I see that looks positive about the Speedglas is the CO2 vents so the lens doesn't fog up, but is it a problem on the miller helmet?

    JNJ:
Welcome aboard and I recently had the opprotunity to try a Big Window and it is really nice. I can't say about the fogging issue. I personally own a Speedglas 9000x and I won't easilly trade. This is going to be a tough decision but I will say either will serve you well. My 9000x seems a bit lighter and its a little more flexible, if you need to get your melon in a tight spot on a race car a stiff hood is cumbersome. If you have a good supplier they should have a demo to at least put on and feel. If I had to choose today I might go with the Miller but I would give the 9002x the double look first.

    Good luck,

I cant say much about the Miller since I dont have one. I do have the 9002x
and have been very pleased, low amp sensitivity works great. The vent you
mention works OK. I also like the delay feature (when lens turns back to
light state). I think the Miller has this feature too. There has been many
posts on the big window elite on this site, they all have been very positive
      reviews.

Well the Miller helmet is cheaper, and the stars & stripes paint scheme is awesome, but I want the best helmet I can get, and I am not sure which one that is. I am leaning toward the miller at the moment. Anyone know the cheapest place to purchase one

          Bwe

i have the BWE and love it . i have not had any truble with fooging.
and yes as stated above the BWE dose have the delay setting to set the dark back to light time as well as a sensitivity adjust so if your outside light changes you can adjust the helmit so sunlight wont set it off. i have used this feature for bolth outdore lighting as well as ajusting fo my 500wat spot light . it alowed me to work in all lighting without being flashed.i would deffenetly recomend it. and will never part with mine cant belive i lived without it.
as for the speed glass i have never tryed 1 but have herd all good about it as well.

ummm gota give the cool factor to the stars and stripes .
          thanks for the help

I printed out an advertisement from CyberWeld ($225.00) and took it to my local welding supply outlet (Praxair). Told them if they'd match the price I'd buy my helmet there. Walked out with a brand new BWE. I didn't mind payin' the tax 'cause they always give me good deals on other stuff and it was also a chance to drool over all those beautiful blue machines that I still can't afford.

                  enjoy

dont freak out when the helmit keeps lowering after you lift it. it seems to be the nice shinny paint and it will stop doing that sooner than you think.it just needs to break in and wear the paint a lil bit .
                  happy helmiting

                    Fun:
Here is another tip- a dab of fingernail polish on the threads will keep the knobs from backing off so easily and it getting loose. I've fixed more than one of these problems for friends. Don't use regular loctight it will damage the plastic.

                    Peace,

I have two one jackson helmet which is about 5 or 6 years old. window size is ok but the uniformity of the lens sometimes needs a little to be desired. I recently got the miller with the big lense and must say its very nice. I have never had a problem with foging on either helmet they both have the same adjustability And i am very pleased with the miller helmet I would say save a little coin for something else and buy the miller
