About those propane heaters.

I see them all of the time but are they safe to use indoors? The combustion gasses are not vented to the outside.

i used mine in an enclosed garage, sometimes for a long while, 10hrs. but it didn't get the garage warm, i still had to dress like i was outside to be comfortable. it basicly took the "edge" off. even though the 10hr days did get a bit warm, took coat off. this was in the dead of winter, above 0 deg.

i suffered no ill effects that i know of.

They run off a big tank in back that gets filled once a year. Just paid the refill at $365.00
On a setting just above # 2, It keeps my 32 X 72 building to 68 degrees. Now I do have it insulated and that does make a difference...and I'm in North Carolina, not upper Michigan
It does regularly get into freezing here at night though and not uncommon to stay in the 40s during the winter.

I have a very well insulated, finished drywall garage on a cement
slab. It's 24 x 18 inside with a 10 1/2 ft ceiling located in Michigan.
I used a wall mounted 18k btu ventless propane heater and maintain
the temp above freezing when I not working out there and mid 60s
when in it.
The heater was fine for heat but raised the humidity to unacceptable
levels, we're talking lots of condensation....real bad when it was
very cold out. Even though the propane burned clean the combustion
released lots of water vapor.
I removed this unit and switched over to a Modine "Hot Dawg"
ceiling mounted furnace, been very happy with the results.
Maintained 40 deg as my min. temp all last winter with no
condensation problems.
I think the ventless units are ok for occasional use only but
would never have another one for my situation.

Mine run constantly at a set temp that does not fluctuate and have had zero condensation issues. Going from a low temp to higher temp will cause some of that. MY metal tubing rack and even tools left on the cement floor stay dry. My units also have fans in them, not sure if that would be helping or not.
Could be the sweating of the concrete from your much lower temp too. Knock on wood....so far no problems

i understand that its the temp changes that cause condensation, then rust.
but with that nice furnace you have now, that removes a lot of humidity so the problem isn't as pronounced.

At home I handle the venting issue by cracking the garage doors an inch or so. I had a condensation issue one year in the new work space, but added wall insulation and a fan. No more moisture problems. The shop is no problem. You can run dang near anything including dump trucks for a while with 40' ceilings, open windows and wall mounted fans.

my garage time it getting slim as its getting colder outside.

i was starting to think it was spinning off track a bit too. didnt mean to start somthing just wanted to help you get a lil heat as i just went through a mager upgrade in insulation and added a heater so i could play this winter.lord knows i dont want to be stuck in the house with the lil woman and her doll's all winter

You just gotta love a hijacked thread, It's all part of the forum,Haven't been to a forum yet where threads didn't get jacked. Sometimes it get's interesting to see where you end up,{ Gas mixes=Garage doors } **** you never know. For the record though, I use a small house trailor furnace in my garage. works great and inexpensive to operate.

the fact is. i just don't have the room to safely place a gas heater. but like i said, i "may" develope a way to use it in the house in a limited manor.

naw, thats not an issue at all. i just don't want to stink/smoke up the place.
if i can do it i will run it on 220v

i have a good bit of aluminum welding i need to do on my truck. but i need to become good(enough) at it first. and this spring i'm going to look into getting a house, with its large enough garage & 220v power.
