I have a HH180 i use .035 wire with C25 when i go to strike an arc it sometimes POPS real loud and scares the CRAP out of me , any reason why it would do this?
Try shortening your stickout and getting the torch closer before you pull the trigger. Also, clean and tighten all your cable connections in the machine.
I was also wondering if a #4 grounding wire would cause the problem, I recently took the factory one off because it was getting hotter then Georgia asphalt in july.

, you may sldo need to increase the voltage a tad.m Try cutting the electrode to 45 degree before starting to weld, this will help with arc initiation. Paul
